Hello, and welcome back to part two of our short blog series! There’s nothing worse than when you’re sitting outside on your patio, enjoying the gorgeous afternoon sunshine, when you suddenly hear and feel mosquitoes buzzing around your ears. These little pests can turn a pleasant afternoon outdoors into an uncomfortable time as you try to swat all those buzzing bloodsuckers away. At Gopher Patrol, we want you to be able to enjoy spending time in your yard without worrying about mosquitoes and other pests, which is why we provide quality and effective pest control in Orange County, including mosquito control and prevention. Today, let’s continue where we left off in part one by looking at a few more ways you can protect your home, yourself, and your loved ones from mosquitoes.
Seal Off Openings
Taking preventative measures to keep mosquitoes out of your home is a great start, but you’ll also want to ensure they can’t get into your home. Mosquitoes are sneaky little buggers who can enter your home through holes and cracks around windows and doors. Seal any openings you find using caulk, window glazing, or putty to close these openings. If you have holes in your window screens or screen doors, you will either want to repair these holes or completely replace your screens to keep the bugs out.
Hang Mosquito Nets
If you notice a lot of mosquitoes in your home on a regular basis, it may be worth hanging mosquito nets for additional protection. These are commonly found in homes and hotels in tropical regions with serious bug problems and can help reduce mosquitoes from biting you while you’re indoors. Mosquito nets can be hung over beds, baby cribs, pet kennels, and in outdoor areas over porch furniture, hammocks, and outdoor playpens.
Install Window Screens
If you have windows that are missing screens, you really don’t have much protection against mosquitoes entering your home when the windows are open. Older homes often lack window screens, so it may be worth installing them or asking your property management company to install them. Along with being incredibly annoying, mosquitoes bite. Mosquito bites create small irritating bumps that are itchy and can become painful after being scratched. What’s more, mosquitoes carry a number of illnesses including West Nile virus and Zika, so you will want to keep these pests out of your home.
